Hello! My name is Elizabeth Stanley and I am currently an Ambassador Girl Scout working on my Gold Award Project.
A Gold Award is the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, and recognizes girls
who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through remarkable Take Action
projects that have sustainable impact in their communities-and beyond.
The name of my project is: Playing and Learning with STEM. For this project, I am going
to create a section in a local Elementary School that is dedicated to STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) learning. There will be many
interactive and educational activities for children ages 5-10 that will be
placed in the entrance of a new STEM addition of the school. The activities
will be separated based on grade level and they will all be hands-on and geared
to the various age groups. The activities will include marble mazes, lego claw
machine, addition mat, lego balance, lego building challenges,
and a lego car activity. Having various STEM activities incorporated into a local
elementary school will allow children from kindergarten to fifth grade to
engage in these unique activities, it will teach them how to improve upon
problem-solving abilities, work on collaboration skills, and provide an avenue
for students to take an interest in STEM fields from an early age.
This is an extensive project that will take a few months to complete. With the help of many volunteers and donations, I hope to finish this project at the end of August before school resumes.
I am excited to begin and share all of my progress on what I have learned and experienced
throughout this process and the lasting impact it will leave on the community!
